Learners say the darnedest things..
I've come to realise that as time wears on here, things that used to be the starring content of my blogs have become so commonplace that I fail to give them the credit they deserve anymore. Learners, however, never fail to catch me off guard and make me smile, laugh, cry or shake my head with the sweet, quirky, unassuming and utterly priceless things that they say and write on a daily basis. I try my best to take note of the best ones, but so many of them get lost and are left to linger in the moment. I hope to continue to update this blog entry throughout the year with new and wonderful learner quotes. Here's a chance for you to fall in love with my learners just as I have. If you come across a quote that doesn't translate well through the internet media you'll just have to trust me: it's funny.
Maria-grade 9 [talking about her friends]: " I really love them because of their sterling etiquettes." (Also included in this composition were words such as albeit; benevolent; abysmal; affable; renowned, amiable; contemptuous; undoubtedly...she is one of my All-stars)
Johanna-grade 8 [journal entry- message to her classmates]: "be sexy but not sexy in taxis"
(..wha...? I think I'm missing something here)
Nason-grade 8 [journal]: "The nickname of Simon is Cock, and when you call him a nickname he is happy and always comes" (excuse the vulgarity..it's just too good not to include)
Grade12 learner [Life Skills composition on goals:write a composition about what your goals are and how you want to achieve them] wrote: "My goal is that I want to achieve my goals." (touché)
Sam-grade 9 [journal entry]: "the young boy [who was scared of the elephant that was at their cattle post] urinated and puffed a bad smell. I had to keep my hand on his mouth because it was near to us and we was having dangerous..."
Sam-grade 9 [note at the end of one of his compositions]: "Thanks for reading my summary I love you Miss I like your skin"
Sofia-grade 8 [card to me]: "How is lyf treating you my teacher, back 2 me lyf is cool and fantastic"
Grade 11 learner (who I neither teach nor know): "May God bless you and give you more energy to do your work"
Frieda-grade 8 [birthday card to me]: "Hi Miss I just want to say happy birthday to you and please enjoy your day today but not life coz is not there to be enjoyed"
