Just thought we would update before we leave Darwin tomorrow. We have had a brilliant day on the Adelaide River which is a tidal river brimming with wildlife and yet really peaceful - we probably only saw three other boats all day. There were just 9 of us in the group and they all had a really good sense of humour, so Ray played to the crowd as you can imagine.
The crocs were huge and came right up to the boat for meat rations. Fortunately we weren't the bait but think the skipper fed them our lunch as we ended up with sausages and cold meat and the croc seemed to be having best steak! Only joking we really enjoyed our barbie in the bush, all mod cons, there was even a sink out there with running water from the river pumped up through a hosepipe. We also saw rare birds such as jabirus and sea eagles and wild water buffaloes that were huge.
On the way back down river we stopped at Goat Island which is about 30 acres in size, totally isolated and is owned by two Danish guys. One of them was hilarious and had a small dog called 'hotdog' who sang to the mouth organ being played. They run a small three roomed hotel there serving meals and alcohol so we had some well needed beers.
This is certainly a wild country.
