All this beach and nature stuff is fantastic but it had been a few weeks since we'd been in a city and we missed it. Our introduction into Georgetown was stepping off the minibus in the monsoon rain. We hastily tried to put on our backpacks where Denise discovered a mini skirt may not have been the most practcal idea as it became intangled with the bag, revealing the ever growing fat arse to the entire bus. Due to a fit of the giggles and arms trapped in the straps, she was unable to remove the skirt and stood there for a few minutes before Jenna gained control of her laughter and had the wonderful job of pulling her skirt down. Hello Georgetown. All was made better when we discovered a hostel with a bakery attached, complete with our new Malaysian mum. Smell of fresh bread woke us everymorning...its amazing how much you miss proper bread!
Our time in Georgetown was dedicated to the mall, Little India (where we had the most amazing banana leaf curry), hunting down the Oz army and navy men and making up for lost time with alcohol. However, for us, the most significant thing in Georgetown was the Soho Pub. Its a proper British pub. Having not seen one in 7 months we nearly cried with happiness. it was made even better when we saw the menu which included pies. Not normally pie fans, we managed quite well with one for dinner and an apple one for dessert, taking the phrase "who ate all the pies" to whole new levels.
We did take in some of the culture with a walk around the old colonial district and a trip in a rickshaw...which took us to the mall...what can we say, homing instinct kicked in again. Georgetown was a good end to malaysia, despite the phone stealing (yes that is now one camera, two phones and two purses, who says security not our top priority?!)Â We think this was the turning point of becoming travellers/hippies and no longer caring about our material possesions...we no longer have any!! So watch out for fisherman pants and hippy skirts.
Overall Malaysia rocked. Really amazing place with such diversity. We did and saw so much made even better by the great exchange rate, food and wonderful people (except for the phone theiving b****). Guys book your hols there, its well worth it! With the 8 month mark approaching, off to country number 8, Thailand...lets see what else we can get nicked!
