Hey everyone, Josie here with my very first blog entry by popular demand.
Currently sat in our hotel in Singapore. Quite old fashioned - a 70yr old man mans the 1953 concertina-door lift 24/7 (i could see my dad doing this job) and the hotel proudly displays newspaper articles that it has featured in over the years including one which calls it the 'famous leaning hotel of singapore'!. It is really nice here tho, cant notice the tilt indoors and apparently is structually safe. Bonus.
This is our first 'roughing it in a dorm' experience altho it really isnt that rough - the two of us are sharing a room with a lovely German girl.
Yesterday we visited Sentosa island - a touristy disneyland-like island off the coast. Had a lovely time there depsite torrential rain (in the middle of a big thunderstorm right now as wel, thought England was bad!). We went to a 4D cinema which was amazing, altho didn't help us much in our quest to dry out - it squirts you with water/shakes your seat at 'appropraite' moments! We also went 'luging' - kind of like non-powered go-karts (see pic). Great fun!
Met up with our intrepid group for our final meal together at a nice Indian restaurant along the water front. Missing Thailand prices now - have got accustomed to dining like kings for three poounds. Here things (excpet ccomadation)are approaching UK prices. I'm enjoying trying all the strange varieties of chocolates/sweets - we need sour skittles and peanut butter m n ms in england i tells ya!!!
After dinner we went to a posh bar called ' the clinic' whcih is a hospital-themed bar (bit odd yes, but we thought we'd give it a go). For $50 (20 pounds) you can have your cocktail served in a blood bag on a drip stand, using the tube is a straw... madness! However as this price equalled the cost of 4 nights accomodation where we are staying we decided against this and chose the cheaper option of a singapore sling.
We then went for a wander along the waterfront and a couple of intrepid buddies and me (not jemma dont worry!) somehow ended up doing a bungee chair thing (a bit like a reverse bungee jump - you are strapped to a chair suspended by elastics, the elastics get tightened then released and the chair goes flying up into the air. you then spend a few hours trying to remove most of your internal organs from your throat and trying to shake blood back into your fingers). Crazy! they videoed it for us - will be going on facebook at some point.
Had our first lie-in of the trip this morning which was much needed. Jemma was feeling a little under the weather (dont panic nothing serious) so I went for another little wander while she rested. I found a lot of big shopping centres and a lot of rain so caught the singapore underground equivalent back.
Tomorrow we will probably go on a 'Hippo tour' (hop-on hop-off bus) to see the sights and/or the singapore duck (just like the washmonster spaldonians!). Catching a 7 hour flight to Oz at 10pm for the next leg!
Hope all is well back in ENgland, I will get jem to write about Melaka (our stop off between Kuala Lumpa and here) soon - she is much better at remembering what we have actually done!
lots of love jot xxx
