Just got back from going up to see the Virgin Mary looking out over Santiago...there is a funicular that goes up to the top where there is a fantastic view of Santiago. Unfortunately the view is masked by the unbelievable smog cloud that hangs over the city- you can´t even see the Andes which surround it and you realise why there are so many restrictions on kids playing sport etc- very depressing...

Mary wasn´t as impressive as Christ the Redeemer in Rio I´m afraid- mostly because she was surrounded by aerials and telephone masts- however there was an outdoor church at the top which must be a great place to worship- if the sermon gets a bit boring you can just enjoy the view!

Anyway our taxi is booked for 4am to go to the airport and fly to La Paz so an early night is in order!
