What's up everyone?!
I'm chilling (quite literally) in Rotorua on the North Island of New Zealand. It's rather smelly here because of the geothermal activity emitting sulphur into the atmosphere - smells kinda like rotten eggs. Cold as usual since it is the winter down here. I'm also suffering from blocked ears as I just did a 15,000 feet skydive a few hours ago. The skydive was absolutely incredible and a totally different experience to the bungee jump. Main differences being that you're dropping for such a long time. I had over a minute of freefall as I fell at great speed towards Earth before then parachuting to the ground. It also was easier because someone else was doing it for me. In that respect, I preferred my bungy jumpy as it was up to me to get the courage to jump of the edge and freefall. Plus, I didn't have annoying ear blockage to deal with afterwards!
Anyway, since my last blog I travelled back up to Christchurch on a long drive. We then headed to Kaikoura and stayed there for a night. The next day we were off by ferry to Wellington, New Zealand's capital city. We spent a night there before heading to Taupo, a place known for holding the cheapest skydive in all of New Zealand. Alas, we weren't blessed with good weather and the only thing we plunged into was boredom for two days. We decided to leave Taupo and head to Rotorua on Thursday. We've since stayed here and attended a 'Maori Culture evening'. It was a truly captivating evening that made us all appreciate the Maori culture. We were even treated to a performance of the ''Haka'' - the Maori war dance that the All Blacks (NZ rugby team) perform before playing a game - right before an all-you-can-eat feast of roast dinner. It was a spectacular evening that we all thoroughly enjoyed. Apart from that, we also skydived here this morning. We'll be leaving for Auckland (our final stop in NZ) tomorrow morning at 1100 local time.
I'm now getting close and closer to visiting my final continent, South America. I'm not looking forward to the ear-popping post the long plane journey, but am very excited at the prospect of experiencing amazing cultures like I encountered in Asia. Only thing I'm nervous about is communicating with others due to my lack of Spanish! Hopefully it'll all work out.
I've now passed the halfway point of my trip and am getting closer and closer to home. I'm just gonna try and enjoy every second whilst it lasts. To South America!
Peace & love,
Darryl
