Cooee all! Hope you're all well and having fun. Just wanna say good luck to all those currently sitting exams at this time of year. I understand it's a very important time for many of you, so may the Force be with you!
Cool. So, in case you're wondering where I've been, I've been on the road a lot and keeping myself very busy. Reasons my blog hasn't been update for a while are purely down to the fact that when I wanted to update my blog in Kuta (Bali, Indonesia), I was feeling very poorly. Turns out I had caught a virus. It was just the usual - bad headache, fever, etc. It made my last two days in Indonesia and Asia fairly unpleasant. This was especially unfortunate because it was my final two days with friends from my Intrepid group and in Asia's party capital of Kuta! I did manage to enjoy some of the place though. Anyway, that's way I haven't updated you for a while. I'm all better now!! :D
Anyway, I'd better fill you in on what I've been up to. Since Yogyakarta, I travelled with my Intrepid group doing a couple more towns before ending in Ubud. We stayed at a really cool hotel and split up with the group to go our separate ways. However, Rob, Anna, Fiona and I decided to go to Kuta because we had tim to kill and it was nearer the airport. We did so and stayed in a chilled place from where we explored the vibrant town that was Kuta. A couple of days went and I left for Darwin, Oz.
I arrived in Darwin with Fiona and we stayed in our hostels. Still feeling poorly from Asia, I spent way too much time in Darwin. I spent the first couple of days sleeping due to fever before visiting a pharmacist. I had a few nasty-looking mosquito bites on my legs and had fever too. The pharmacist asked if I took Malaria tablets whilst in Indonesia. I said, 'no', to which she replied, 'see a doctor ASAP!'. I did so and got some antibiotics and had a blood test organised. A couple of days later, I'd had the blood test and found out that I didn't have Malaria. By that time, however, I felt fine. The antibiotics really did the job and I felt great. Soon enough, I was organising my tour of Oz and set off for Kakadu national park in Darwin. After that was a 3 day tour to Alice Springs from where I'd the cultural sights of Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kings Canyon and the Olgas. I had an amazing time and made some really cool friends. We were in the middle of nowhere for pretty much a week. It was desert for as far as we could see and beyond, and there was no civilisation for miles (kilometers in Oz) in Central/Northern Oz (known as 'Northern Territory). It was so tranquil and you could really feel the cultural and spiritual presence of the place. It has definitely been a huge highlight already, especially sleeping by the fire under the stars in the middle of open desert. I've never seen so many stars in my life!!
From Alice Springs, I was to fly to Cairns (home of the Great Barrier Reef) up on the East Coast, which I booked in Darwin. I spent a night there before again heading up to Cape Tribulation - a beautiful beach and rainforest area. I spent a night there before going to snorkel on none other than the Great Barrier Reef. The crew were awesome and the place was amazing. The crew I was with had exclusivity to a specific section of reef and our group were alone snorkelling there. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
After Cairns, I took a tour bus down to Townsville. I've since met a great group of fellow tourists (many English and German!). From Townsville, we all went to Magnetic Island (where I am now). We're now staying in the best hostel I've ever stayed in. We're by the amazing scenery of a beach and the atmosphere is so exciting! There are people from around the world here. I've met Canadians, Americans, Europeans, Australians (imagine that!) and so many others. This place could not be better - there's a swimming pool, kayaking, snorkelling, a supermarket (i.e. cheap food), a bar and, best of all, great service! I've got soooooo many free drinks, a packed out breakfast because the chef was having a laugh with the new starter, and made great friends!
Anyway, I'll be moving out of here tomorrow. Going to take the bus with a group of the same bus tour friends down to Airlie beach. From there, we'll go to the Whitsunday Islands and go sailing. I can't wait!
So, basically, I'm just heading straight down the East Coast to Melbourne now with a bus tour. Making a few stops along the way as well as many friends! I've already bumped into many people more than once around different places in Oz, as we're all going the same way. It's cool to make friends and see them again rather than saying 'hi' and 'bye' within the space of a few days!
Okay, better go. Big queue for the internet and other stuff to sort out. I am alive and kicking and having an awesome time!
Take care, have fun and best wishes,
Dazza - my adopted Ozzy name ;)
