Workin' Our Way Around The World
Sawa Dee
Apologies for Sam's last journal entry she was in a rush - Just to fill you guys in before we left Chiang Mai we treated ourselves to a traditional Thai massage; pure bliss! It uses methods similar to Shiatsu, reflexology and yoga. The aim is to release blocked channels of energy and soothe tiered muscles, and it's also a very spiritual experience. I found it quite painful in certain positions as they really manipulate your body in ways that you're not used to but mentally I felt elevated from everything and so peaceful. Sams calf injury is also completely healed, she felt it slip back into place and it has been great ever since!! We'll definately be having another before we leave.
We now find ourselves at Mae Nam beach where we will stay for four nights. We moved from Lamai yesterday. Our time there was a relaxing wind down from the activities of Chiang Mai. We ate some gorgeous food, our new faves include Paad Thai noodles, Tom Yam Kung and of course the infamous curries. Samäs going on a cookery course whilst I do my scuba PADI so expect a Thai night dinner on our return (Ill be in charge of drinks!)
Back to the fun and frolics of Lamai beach, we saw Thai boxing which was a great laugh, soaked up the rays and I got ran over, yes thats right by an out of control Irish moped nutter. Sam and I sat on the side of the road waiting for a songthaew (taxi) smurking at this middle ages, overweight guy trying to start this scooter, he went for a wee practice in the layby opposite us before hurtling at some speed across the road straight onto my lap! It could have been worse as I wasnt hurt but it was SO funny! Especially as after apologising numerously he proceeded to do the same again! Some lovely Italians from Tuscany came to make sure I was ok, I told them we were looking for a place in Abruzzo Mum and Dad, they were lovely and chanted CRAZY FOOLA as he jerked and surged his was up the high street!! Other funny exerts include sitting next to a tatooed biker and his Thai prostitute at dinner one evening, the first thing he said to her was "So, errr...what your name...Its so funny out here for that!!
Mae Nam on the north coast of Koh Samui is a long quiet and non touristic beach our idea of heaven, and quite the opposite for Lamai. We have managed to land on our feet with accomadation and have checked ourselves into a lovely beach hut called Wandee bungalows. Its only 2pound a night each and for the price theyre lovely. The sea is cleaner and deeper here so I think a morning swim is on the agenda. The owners are lovely, but we feel a bad as our Thai is VERY limited but were trying to pick a few pieces up as we go along. So thats us up until now, we leave here on the 29th for koh Toa where Ill be studying at Buddha View Resort for my PADI and Sam will be playing masterchef!!
Love to all, missing you lots

PS We saw some of the coup in Bangkok when we travelled through, Army everywhere and tanks present although now threatening at all. The Thais we spoke have declared it a mini relovution....about 80percent are happy that its happened.
