Fiji-Bounty Island-Home of Celebrity Love Island
Arrival into Nadi was reminescent of Thailands climate, hot, humid and sticky. After a long wait to reclaim our baggage a taxi drove us through the military checkpoint and into Vuda Marina. Deserted, and no signs of buissness we were told the last boat to the islands had already left and the next not being until 7.30am the following morning.
Luckily two local fijians were waiting and told us that a boat was arriving. With no control and our choices either wait or go back to Nadi town . As our accomodation was fully paid for we decided to wait as a thunderstorm erupted through the sky. Huddled under the ports veranda chatting to the fijians our hopes were diminished and to our luck a mananger from the sistering island - Treasure told us the boat had broken down but he was able to fix us up a room at a nearby resort and we would board the 7.30am boat to Bounty. The language barrier joined us again and we felt this was our only choice although we were annoyed . As he drove us, we thought the worse drenched from the storm however, we arrived at what was a 4*resort and luxury!!!!
Service to the door bags carried in a brass holdel our Bure was more like an appartment with coffee table, King sizes bed and a tiled ensuite. It was pure luxury and we felt like Queens!!!
We thanked ourselves lucky as Bounty had paid for this and dinner was included so we freshened up and headed to the resturant. This was located on the beach front , candle lit and waitresses serving on hand and foot - it was amazing! The choice of food was gourmet and i ate Mignon steak whilst Jess chose taste of India with curry served on bananna leaves and coconut. The presentation was very impressive. I couldnt believe that a bad day could turn out so good!.
An early start as we caught the boat over to the island and we were greeted with graceful "Bulas" ( Fijian greeting) by all dressed in traditional Hawaian print shirts. This was not comparible to our first night in Fiji but was what we expected.
Back to beach life it was , bikinis back on it was hard to climatise again as the past month was spent freezing in New Zealand and wrapped in all layers!
The heat was siering and we walked around our island where we came across the set of "Celebrity Love Island". I was shocked as it was not how we'd expected- rubble and half demolished- to be honest a mess! The shack and whirlpool was still visible it was crazy to think that Rebecca Loos and Calum Best had been frolicking in there!. Apparently the new series had been filmed on mainland so parts had probably been transferred but still its a disgrace to leave a beautiful island like a trash site!.
After some hours of snorkelling in the pacific the arrays of corals and neon fish once again captivated me, moody skys dramatic in movement spead across and we watched the most spectacular sunset. With it so amazing its hard to imagine it christmas tomorrow.
Due to a bad experience involving a male worker and fellow travellors having personal items stolen - our paradise was not as idyllic as thought and having spoken to management i have been able to get us upgraded to Treasure island where we will celebrate Christmas and spend the remainder of all holiday.
Thinking of you all at this special time and i send my warmest wishes x
