We checked out without any problems and said goodbye to our new friends before heading back to the main part of Venice. One last glimpse of the canals and sun-baked buildings and then we were on a train bound for Naples. Our first train from Venice to Bologna went without any trouble but when we got on our connection to Naples things started going wrong. At first it was delayed about half an hour from Bologna and then about halfway through, we stopped at some random little town in the middle of nowhere. Someone in our coach translated the conductor's announcement that we would be waiting for an hour or more so me and Carson sat outside on the platform and played Rummy to pass the time. We decided to keep track of our score and so began our epic month-long game of Rummy! Eventually the train started moving again but only one more station further and suddenly everyone was getting off. Turns out our train had some sort of malfunction so we had to wait at this station for another half hour or so before a second train came. We crammed onto the train and eventually made it to Naples quite a few hours later than expected. Already frustrated from the train delay, we weren't impressed at all by the filthy, sketchy streets that we walked to get to our hostel. The single reason we came to Naples was to visit Pompeii so we called it a night early since we wanted an early start tomorrow. Hopefully Pompeii will be worth it!
