You'll have to bear with me on this while I try to remember what we did in Peru. I am currently in Fiji (on yet again a very slow computer) but we have not had internet access for the month.
After fearing the Inca Trail for weeks, it turned out that the jungle was far scarier. We flew from ugly Lima to sweaty Puerto Maldonaldo on the edge of the Amazon and then boarded a motorized canoe for three hours to take us deep into the jungle. Lunch was served in a leaf and it was all great fun for a while. Due to a flight delay we arrived to the lodge in darnkness and had to trek with our torches. Having survived this in Brazil I wasn't so bothered by that. The lodge was alos beautiful - a huge wooden colonial looking building. One problem though - it had no windows or doors. The jungle was welcome to raom your 'room'! I didn't sleep a wink as it sounded like monkeys, lions and rats were scurrying round our beds! As it turned out there was only a toad in the bathroom and a bat in the roof.....
(Tme out. TBC in New Zeaand....)
