March 28th
This is Sunday and I have been here a week, seems a long time since I left England and next Monday when I leave seems a long way ahead. The couple from the embassy turned up again today – he really is a Class A prat. His wife speaks each word syllable as a separate word – Gwa Ta Ma La (Guatamala). They are so busy dropping place names I lose interest. He is an endurance rider and arrived with all his gear, including an English saddle. To be honest I don't think he rode any better than the rest of us and confessed to being stiff and sore at the end of the ride – so not much endurance there then! His dog Poppy on the other hand – what a little star – she came with us on the ride, kept up through all the gallops, some of them over half a mile and still found time to flush out a few quail and have a swim!
As I said the ride had some long gallops and my dear old Palomo managed all of them but we always tailed in last but nevertheless complete with no dignity lost. It gave everyone a chance to admire my stylish riding!!
Lunch was excellent foodwise, as always but another pompous pair turned up from the US embassy for lunch – some old guy who said he was actually born in England and his 12 year old wife – well maybe not twelve but probably only a third of his age. A trophy wife with a large rock on her finger. I left as soon as it was polite to do so.
Luckily they all scarpered about 3ish so I went into the Jacuzzi and suddenly found myself face to face with a rather large bay stallion! The horses had all been let out to roam the ranch and graze the shrubbery. I think this one was Aragon who had come for a nose at the hot tub!!
The German couple had gone out again this afternoon but I felt a 4 hour ride was enough in this heat. We did stop for a beer this morning – but it was just someone’s house, we raided their fridge and paid them 10 pesos per beer and sat in their garden! Very odd. After helping their youngest boy with his English homework we returned home via 3 long half mile canters.
There is an Irish lady arriving tomorrow in her late 40’s (according to Uschi) so hope she is fun to talk to. The two Germans are very nice and Jurgen has a good sense of humour, his wife Corinne is lovely. They are really well travelled and good to talk to.I am hoping to go to Tula on Tuesday afternoon the see the Atlanteans which are large monoliths carved by the Toltecs to look like faces.
Not much out of the ordinary happened today, apart from me remaining in the saddle which is always a bonus!
The ranch is getting busier from tomorrow and there may well be a houseful by Easter. That may have been my last exclusive Jacuzzi!
