The bus to Pnom Penh was only a four and a half hour journey on a nice bus although we were glad from where we were sitting, we couldn't see where we were going!!!, We booked into a really nice hotel that Fran and Andy suggested and in the afternoon went to a travel agent and put in our application for our Vietnam visa, arranged a bus to Saigon on Sunday and booked a full day Cambodian cookery course for Saturday - this includes a visit to the market in the morning to buy the ingredients, lunch and a three course dinner for $22 each!!! The day after we arrived, we went to S-21 Prison an old school that the Khmer Rouge took over and where 17,000 Cambodians were held and tortured before being taken to the Killing Fields - a sobering place! After S-21 we went to visit the Killing Fields where there are 126 mass graves, 85 or so of them have been excavated and the 8,200 or so skulls dug up have been displayed in a memorial stupa, ranging in age from babies to the elderly!!!! That day was soooooo hot that we spent the afternoon in our guesthouse, in the aircon watching movies!! That night we weren't too hungry so went to the market and bought two big chicken legs and some baguettes for a couple of dollars, bargain! Today we planned on going to do our blog and check email and then go to the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, but . . . . . . . . . 3 hours later, we're still in a nice aircon bar drinking draught Angkor, mmmmm happy days :-)
