We've been in Vietnam for 6 now and have had a great time. We spent a couple of days in Saigon and hired a couple of cyclo drivers on one day and went to see, The Reunification Palace, The War Remnant Museum, and a temple in China Town. The cyclos are expensive to hire these days, they're a dying breed, the Government have been trying since 2007 to get rid of them and apparently they'll be gone in about 5 months time - what a shame to get rid of such a traditional form of transport :-( You also find that a lot of the cyclo drivers worked with the Americans during the Vietnam war and being a cyclo driver is about the only job they can get. Its a tough job, the bikes have no gears and when you've got a 55 year old peddling one, it ain't easy so they deserve the money they get. We booked a 3 day trip to go to the Mekong Delta, unfortunately it's difficult to get around the Mekong on public transport and you have to charter a boat if you want to go on the rivers so the cheaper option is the "tour"!!! We enjoyed some of it but it was pretty much hot and sweaty work and we spent a lot of time getting from A to B!! Off to Nha Trang tomorrow for a bit of R&R on the beach, can't wait!!!!!
