Short trip to Yarmouth mooring at Hales boat yard. This is an old traditional boat yard with bits of old boats scattered about. Went to "On the rocks" for dinner and then set off to try and find the Olympic opening ceremony on a tv. We ended up watching it at the yacht club who were having a champagne reception. A raucous evening added to the great ceremony.

It was bright with light winds so set off for Portland Bill at 8:30 to attempt the inside passage for the first time. Initially we were motoring but slowly the wind rose so we were able to sail. As we came past Chesil beach the wind increased to 24 knots and I started to have doubts about the inner route as recommended in light to moderate winds only and we had a wind over tide position at the bill. Another hot day with very little wind, decided to go to Lyme Regis as this is only suitable in this weather and have never been before. When we arrived, thinking it would be Thomas Hardy and French Lieutenant's women, we discovered a very busy seaside with hundreds of people on the beach. 50 shades of grey and the other books in this trilogy are hot on Javelin this week. The problem is I have not seen a copy! Sue is reading book 1 and Jo book 3, Clare spends the day looking over their shoulders giggling at various pages. I will let you know if anything else emerges.

The weather has become warmer each day and the wind has dropped. We managed a couple of hours sailing today before it went away completely. Dropped anchor in a remote bay between Dartmouth and Brixham. It was a lovely spot without powerboats roaring back and forth. I went swimming and finished scrubbing Javelin's bottom.
