Today is Thai New Year and that means one thing - water fights. Apparently it started off as a tradition where you would flick a small amount of water over someone to wash away all the badness from the year before in order to start afresh for the new one. However that seems to have descended into mass water fights where weaponry includes buckets, water guns, hoses, oh and the river... I managed to catch some of the days water festivities driving around Chiang Doa and coming away from that I thought that would have been the epic celebrations all done with... How I was wrong haha.
Getting in to Chiang Mai central at around 7.30 we were greeted with what can only be described as a standstill traffic jam caused by one hell of a festival. Thousands of people walking around with water guns and buckets chucking them from cars and spraying each other on the street - why can't we have this sort of stuff in England? Oh yea that's because it's still around 30 degrees by midnight! Unfortunately we missed most of the actual water fighting bit as the closest we could park was miles away but we still got to experience it behind our incredibly water proof windshield.
Dinner was awesome, again. And cheap, again. It came to about £3.50 and that was me trying to splash out! (Ha water fight joke...sorry) then Benz decided to buy us a tower of beer which went down pretty well.
Tomorrow we'll be sat at the side of the road listening to music and throwing water over anyone who decides to challenge us to a water off. Not too sure that's a phrase but after today I think it should be.
Probably the best New Years celebration I've ever had!
