Today we did a trek across the Franz Josef Glacier! It was amazing and we had a really great day! We are staying at a camppark called Franz Josef top 10 and its really nice, we got picked up by a guide this afternoon and taken to the main hubby where we were briefed and kitted out! They gave us boots, coats, hats, scarfs and anything we needed! Adam kept his own boots and I kept my own coat BUT they gave us mittens which was super exciting and they were reallly cute!! :)
We then began our trek.. we started through the rainforest and through this jungle, forest type thing then landed onto this huge gravel thing and had to walk up a really big, dangerous mountain. Our guide told us all the dangers about this mountain that had warning signs all around it and I asked "has anyone ever died?" and he bluntly told me that people die every few months! I did not feeell very good about this climb but it was actually okay, we just had to stay in his tracks and follow him and then we pulled over and put on our "clamp ons" which were big claws for our feets :) then we were on the ice! It was seriously so cool! The guide also told us that there are only 3 glaciers in the world in the middle of the rainforest - the one we were on, the one next to it and one in Argentina so it was really cool and actually felt like a once in a lifetime thing! The ice was really funny, I wore shorts and I was still boiling! It was really warm but you got a cold bum if you sat down! We both tried to lick the ice but our tounges didnt stick :(
Adam crawled into this hole of ice and got very wet! It was funny and some others did it too but a few of us didnt brave it! :) The guide thought ADam was funny as he tried to explore one of the holes to see how deep it went!
We met a realllly nice fmaily from Nottingham! 2 sisters were travelling for 6 and a half months and there mummy had come to meet them for a month! I told her my mum would NEVER be able to deal with two going of at the same time! They were her only two children aswell! She was like you mum - worrying all the time and preffered not to know abotu dangerous things haha! they were really nice and simmilar ages/experiences to us :) They are the first English people we have met also! Their trip too sounded really cool.
We were going to drive down to Queenstown tonight but with our tickets we didnt realise we got free entry to the hot pools, we were both pretty tired anyway so much to my delight we decided to go back to the hot pools for a much needed rest and then stay at the campsite again because its really nice anyway and then im going to drive in the morning whilst Adam stays in bed lol! then we can swap!
we are now parked next to this couple, earlier the woman didnt have many clothes on and was plucking her husbands eyebrows and waxiing his back. It was repulsive! Not excited for tonight so much haha.
excited for queenstown and to do our jump though!
lots of love xxxxxx
