Got up super early so we could go and meet our guide and finish the briefing for Fraser Island, we met our guide who was called Kirk, he was really nice :) funny and freindly! Our group was also really cool, we got our foods and then met our cars, in our group there was Me, Adam and Ben and then we had 2 canadians called Marc and Nic and also a sweedish girl called Kimberley who were all reallly nice :)
We got on our way and headed to the boat stop, it was REALLY windy on the boat but pretty cool! The drivers of our car weere Ben and Marc because they were over 21.. the road driving now stopped and we were about to be driving on sand and mud for 3 days!!
DAY 1 -
We got of the ferry and headed for central station where we had lunch and went on a rainforest walk, it was really hot but beautiful! :) We then headed to a huge lake in the middle of a sand dune called Lake Wabbe, it was really cool and everyone got in and was splashing around! We were rolling and running down the sand dune into the lake with all the fishies and it was hilarious and we all got to know each other well :) We then had to walk back...Kirk hadnt come with us.. we went the wrong way and all got VERY lost! It was hilarious but also very tiring! We literally walked for miles & arrives back late but lovely kirk STILL had a smile on his face and thankfully found our stupidity very funny! We then headed to our base camp, its the only camp on the island were the Aboriginals (also known as abuergines in Jasmine language) and it was interesting to see them. Driving was hard and very bumpy but the guys did really well! We had a BBQ and chilled out round the campfire then had a freeezzzing night sleep!!
DAY 2 -
Got up after not alot of sleep and headed straight to the Indian Heads, Kirk was reallly knowlerdgable about everythong and told us all of the Fraser Island storys..... Indian heads was pretty boring and we wanted to get to some lakes! We headed to the Champagne Pools which were pools behind lots of rocks made by the sea, they are there because you cant go in the sea (sharks, jellys etc) so this was like our little beach but you had to be REALLY careful because there were razor sharp shells all over the beach that could slice you... all of our group were oaky but one guy in car B got his hand completley sliced when he got knocked over by a wave :( sad times! We then headed to Lake Allom which was SO exciting as there were wild turtless!! Everyone thought it was hilarious how overexcited it was, Munchie would of been in turtle heaven as I was...it was sooo cool swimming with them! The lake was also beautiful and in the middle of the rainforest, when you were in it you looked orange because it was under hundreds of tea tree oil plants which drops the oil into the water so it makes your skin and hair feel amazing...goooood times! :) it was very deep so some of us made it just to the middle but most of the guys swam all across it! It was amazing & so was the weather!
We then did another rainforest walk..we didnt get lost and we headed back to camp where I made Spag bowl which was delicious if I do say so myself! :) We played drinking games and got drunk on cheap vodka and goon (verrrrrry cheap ozzie wine!) and then we went to the beach that night to look at the stars which were i.n.c.re.di.b.l.e! Miiiiiiiilions of them :)
DAY 3 -
Woke up to rain after 3 amazing sunny days..cant have it all out here! ;) We went to Ell Creek which was a walk up to the top then you let the river bring you down...most of the guys went in but it was a bit cold for us girls so we played photographers and chilled down the bottom with our feet in! It did look fun though and we got some really good photos! We then headed to lake mckenzie which was amaizng.. its the main place of Fraser and I imagine if it was sunny it would be 500000 more times beautifuler than it was! We played a giant game of Frisbee in the lake ( I wasnt very good!) :( We then headed back to the Ferry and back to the hostal in Hervey Bay.. said bye to our group and pretty much fell straight asleep!
We travelled last night to a place called Airlie Beach, we are travelling with two other people now.. Claire and Ben who are doing the Whitsundays with us tommorow for 3 days and then we are all going up to Cairns :) We also have the canadians here who were on our car and were all going out tonight :) falling in love with OZ more every day!!
Will blog after Whitsundays.
