Hi there!
Although we're no longer in San Fran, we didn't get an opportunity to update our blog since our last entry (actually we did, but the internet d/c and we lost it...blahhh!!). So here's a recount of our time in San Fran - our first stop in the sunny state of California! :)
We arrived there late last Friday, and was met with a rather "dodgy" city. We were scared, but that didn't stop Jason from convincing us to go out to grab our first slice of american pizza - it was aboslutely massive, as was the city (even though the travel guide stated San Fran was "one of the smallest cities in the USA"). But the day showed a much more pleasant sight, and we weren't deterred to go exploring despite the cold (although Tsae's fingers almost froze off!!) :(
Over the next 2 days we visited:
1. Alcatraz Prison/Island
2. Golden Gate Bridge
3. Bays Bridge (aka. "The Golden Gate" according to Tsae - refer to "Dumb Quotes")
4. Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39
5. Union Square
6. Rode the cable cars that SF is famous for!
Alcatraz was a lot better than we expected, with a self-guided audio tour leading us through the cell houses, housing prisoners such as Al Capone.
Union Square (similar to Martin Pl in Sydney) has the best Christmas light display we've ever come across!! A massive Christmas tree stands in the centre of streets lined with prestigious shops, like Macy's, Saks on Fifh Avenue and Tiffany & Co (Jason also remembers Victoria's Secret being there). It puts Sydney's to shame! Hehe.
We discovered first-hand an important fact: the cable car system is probably the most dangerous transportation in the world!! Jason was especially scared for his life, believing it was scarier than the rides in Disneyland (refer to later entries ;). We nearly hit every car on the road, not being able to stop in time!
We walked across the Golden Gate Bridge - it took half an hour each way and Jason complained of tiredness and hunger the whole way!! But it took us to a fantastic lookout and we could see the entire downtown San Fran :)
Hope all is well in Sydney! We'll upload photos as soon as we can!
