Day 5 Peregrine tour Burma. Local guide Ko Ko Aye. Early morning start up at 5.30am to leave Oway Hotel and head for the waterfront to spend an entire day on a private ferry boat to cruise down the Irrawaddy (Ayeyarwady ) River. The source of the Irrawaddy River is from the Himalayas and flows to the ocean. It's massive and over a 1000 miles long. It must be a major force to be reckoned with in the monsoon season.
Our trip today will take 10 hours plus by river boat . Travelling on the river boat is a welcome change from a bus. Along the way, we saw the idyllic way of life that epitomises theses parts of Rural Burma, this is especially apparent in fishing villages that lie along the riverbanks .
We passed dozens of boats of different size and utility, a testament to theorise this mighty river plays in life of so many people and industries. There was a restaurant on board the ferry, and meals were provided as part of the fare.Drinks could be purchased during the day.
It was a very relaxing trip. Sunburn was each passengers greatest problem. The heat of the sun in Burma is a lot stronger than our respective countries, short stints on the open deck is advised with ample use of sunscreen and sun hats. Many Italians on our trip were badly burned by the sun. So many amazing sights along the way on this boat trip . Every corner of the river produced a different sight. Highly recommend this trip.
