Our visit to the Edinburgh Castle was phenomenal. We got to hear the cannon blast at 1 pm. They don't shoot the cannon off at noon so they can save 11 rounds of ammunition -- those Scotts always conserving. We also visited the crown jewels -- no pictures allowed. What a sight. After we left the castle, we went on a tour of the Scottish Parliament. It was interesting to see such a new regime after coming from our 200+ year history. They were very concerned about making it open to the public. The chamber deliberation hall (similar to our house/senate in the Capitol) was remarkable. The architect utilized a great amount of symbolism; however he died during construction and they still don't know all of the intent. They seem to be making it up as they go. The one aspect of the guided lecture that still amazed me was the fact that England still has veto power over their laws so complete independence is not gained. It is certainly a start though. We had dinner at a restaurant called The Dome. It started as a medical school and then turned into a bank before being converted into a restaurant. Without appetizers, dessert or any drinks, our meal ran us $84. The place was absolutely beautiful. The lady at the table next to us was from Missouri and after returning to the table told me that I had to use the restroom (or toilets as they are known there). There was even a chandelier in the restroom. It was pretty humorous.
