Hey everyone!!
I haven't been able to post for a few days as its been so busy!
I met up with my group on Saturday, and they're all really lovely! My room mate is a girl from England too, and the rest of the group are from all over... Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, USA, N Ireland, New Zealand and Denmark. Debbie is my room mate, she's lovely! It's a good mix of people and most are solo female travellers. There's 15 of us and only 3 groups of two, so it seems that most are travelling alone. Our tour reps sweet, but a little bit shy, so we're all on a mission to get him to come out of his shell!
On the Sunday we just lounged around Playa del Carmen, it was soo hot to do anything. I ended up looking like a lobster:( That spray on sun cream is useless even though I kept reapplying, so I had to go and buy the proper cream as its thicker. The sun burns gone down now, just quite red on my tummy, ouch!
Yesterday we spent about 11 hours travelling to Belize. 5 hours on a coach were boring, especially as the coach driver picked the most depressing films to show, and they were all dubbed in Spanish. We left Mexico by boat, it was one rough journey. Me and Debbie were sat right at the front, so everytime the boat hit a wave we got the full impact! Once we got through customs, we got another boat to the island of Caye Caulker, which was an open speed boat and sooo fun! We got drenched as it rained a bit but ah well! Bizarrely, there was a guy on the boat who I thought looked like a guy I went snowboarding with a few years ago at uni, but it couldn't be him since I'm randomly in Belize. It was haha! He's come to Caye Caulker for the diving!
I think I've found my new favourite destination! This place is gorgeous! It's so chilled out. Apparently the locals have a saying of 'go slow' and they do. It's an English speaking country, with the Queen on the money (so it makes the currency easy to use), but its very rastafarian. We're planning on going to the happy hour on the beach later, 2 for 1 rum drinks while laying in a hammock, its a hard life! There's no cars either, so its so peaceful. But they drive around in golf buggys, so we're hoping to rent one later:) We're staying in the Chinatown hotel haha, not very Belizean!
We're going to wander down to the split, which is where the island was cut in 2 in a hurricane in 1961. Apparently you can swim down there and there's a bar, which is the only place you can get this infamous lizard drink (it is bright green).
I tried lobster last night, its really cheap here! It was surprisingly quite nice! And tonight we're going to this place where they cook a family style meal, should be interesting! I've tried rum (yum) and swimming in the sea (and I didn't panic) so doing quite well!
The plan is to go snorkelling tomorrow. Its a day trip out to the Barrier reef, which is like the 2nd largest in the world. We're going with a company called raggamuffins (amazing), and its like a rasta boat where they give you food and drinks while on board, so should be good fun!
I'm going to try and get my photos on soon! I'd love to hear how you're all doing at home! I'll let you know how the snorkelling goes:)
Love lots!
xXx
p.s. Caroline, get your skinny self to Belize some time, it is like your reggae dream! And yes Buddha is :)
