Can't believe it's a week since the 'international' meal. We had a great time and met lots of interesting new people. Both the villa and the food was fantastic and conversation lively too, despite the language differences. Also had a really enjoyable coffee in the morning with Tal and Lesley. Tal will take us back to Alicante in the summer - good news Chris and Sue! Have sorted transfer from Alicante to Javea too. Though sorry to leave Javea, we enjoyed our time but were pleased to be moving to a new area.
Drove on Monday to the National Park on the south coast and found an amazing hotel on booking.com. Decor and ambience were very striking and it's an area well worth returning to for further walking.
Arrived in Balamadena on Tuesday and met Jim and Janet from the plane. Apartment is very good and we've now had five nights together. Wednesday we stayed local and spent a long time over lunch next to the Med. Thursday we drove to Marbella and walked to Puerto Banus and back along the promenade, about 10k in lovely warm sun. Saw where the rich and famous shop and moor their fabulous yatchs. A different view of Costa del Sol in more ways than one.
Had the most violent storm on Thursday night with thunder and lightening for over two hours but Friday morning saw an improvement and so we stuck with our plan of a day to Gibraltar. Not sure what any of us expected but we really enjoyed it and Janet and I even let the apes sit on our shoulders whilst we fed them. Peter and Jim took the photos. (Not uploaded yet!) Yesterday was a stroll to the port and then up into the old town for a look around and finally the Carnival Parade which had some interesting floats and dancing girls.
We are now near Ronda for two nights to do some walking and then back to Janet and Jim for a couple more nights on the coast. An amazing 5 bedroom hotel with fantasic views of the mountains. It's stopped raining so we're off out for a walk and then will look for somewhere to eat tonight. The owner here is Peruvian but lived in Sweden, married and then they moved here and built the hotel. Amazing English!
More soon. Love Jane and Peter xx
