New boots for 10 euros, now that's a bargain! Merida was lovely and very Spanish. Roman remains were amazing and very accessible. Good hotel and ate in restaurant where no English was spoken. Sea bass was excellent. Threw shoes out and got walking trainers dried off with the hairdrier eventually. Six days of rain now but at least it is warm and my feet are dry!.
Arrived in Trujillo yesterday to stay here in a hostel for two nights. It is a lovely old 17th century home on the edge of the old town and 80 euros for 2 nights, brilliant value. The owner is lovely and can't do enough for us, good job Peter can speak some Spanish though. We love the town and got into the walled part yesterday afternoon whilst it was dry. Views across the plain are fantastic. Storks are everywhere and the Plaza Mayor is fabulous - really struck gold with staying here and not in Caceres. We've been there today but the Plaza Mayor is all under reconstruction and it is a much bigger place altogether. However, the old town of Caceres is fascinating and we wandered round and into a couple of museums, including an Andy Warhol exhibition.
Drove back here through countryside similar to Derbyshire - green, dry stone walls and sheep, goats and cattle everywhere. Also plenty of storks and heron and even saw a sparrowhawk.
Move onto Salamanca tomorrow and then heading for Bilbao.
Forgot to mention Grazelema last time. Wonderful village and plenty of scope for walking. We spent a day there when we were staying near Ronda last Monday. It is an area we shall go back to and explore more.
Looks like rain has stopped at last so time for a shower and out for a drink and food.
