Washington has been absolutely amazing. The best city either of us have ever been to. Packed so much into our four days. Started with a walk to the White House and the Washington Memorial on Tuesday after good journey by Amtrack. Hotel fabulous, updated to executive package with breakfast, soft drinks and snacks at tea time. a real bonus. Lovely room, two blocks from White House. Wednesday we walked to all the memorials, WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Lincoln, FDR, Jefferson and back to hotel. That was after a run in the morning to the White House and Washington Memorial before breakfast! Slept well.
Thursday we did the Mall with a call at the National History Museum and Sculpture Park. Tour round the Capital and then sat in the gallery at the Senate. Understand a lot more about American politics now. Air and Space museum on way back to hotel. Friday took us to Arlington Cemetry from where we walked to Georgetown with lunch at Port Washington then back to the White House and into Renwick Gallery. An extremely friendly and welcoming city and the best part is that everything is free. Could spend a lot, lot more time here. Visit if you can in the future, you'll love it.
Got the subway to Ronald Reagan Airport this morning and picked up our car - Mazda 5 automatic, bit scary as Peter has not driven automatic before but he did well and we arrived here at Little House at 2.00pm. Accomodation great and all we can hear are the birds. Shopped and got washing done so ready for exploring tomorrow. On internet all week now so will update the photos and get some on of this area.
Peter says you'll be bored but at least you won't have to listen when we get home!!
