Today is my first taste of relaxation. I was awoken at 10:30 by what sounded like Mick Dundee, doing his wild chorus with the rope Thigy in crocodile dundee, with Dani still in the land of nod I decided to sit on the balcony to investigate what the noise was coming from.
As soon as I opened the door it was apparent the noise was coming from a tree adjacent to our bungalow in the hill side. With a coffee in my hand I was intrigued to what it was. within five minutes and a few russles in the leaves later, a large black bird appeared at the top and I could see this creature was making the noise, this must of been a Dawn chorus or a warning signal because within a few minutes the heavens above opened up and showered my feet with a downpour.
The rain was welcomed as it felt refreshing in the morning humid air and as this was the first rain I had seen since leaving England I embraced it, knowing it wasn't going to last because I could see blue sky in the distance.
After an hours worth of rain dani had awoken and we mapped out our day ahead.
We decided it was a relaxation day on the cards and ventured out to the other side of the bay that we hadn't discovered. We made our way down the concrete steps from our resort and cut through onto the road that links the two sides of the island. We approached the beach with great hunger and found a restaurant that was recommended by the owner of the dara hotel in Phuket.
Ciao bella was an Italian restaurant owned by a survivor of the tsunami, we ordered our food, dani had tagliatelle and myself a bolognese. We purchased a book written by the owner telling his gripping story of how he and his staff survived the tsunami. In brief he lived in a hut on the highest point of phi phi for 13 days living on roots, a few eggs and bananas. Dani read the introduction and was in tears!! I could tell it was going to be a good read for myself as it large font and had many pictures so I'm looking forward to hearing his tale.
We found our spot on the beach and with only 60/70 people on it I began to relax and soak up the rays, as I write this its 5:30 in the evening and the sun is going down...with our first proper relaxing day in full swing I'm kind of thinking I could get used to this!
