Hi!!
We have successfully made it to Rio! We had a good flight, except Mike couldn't fall asleep, and there was plenty of food. But when we arrived our airport pick-up didn't pick-up! Good old Renato helped us and we made it to our hostel in a nice bright yellow taxi.
We have done a fair bit of walking today in Rio and along the Copacabana beach. The weather was 28 degrees at its peak, which was high enough for us Brits. We are hoping that the temperature has calmed down slightly by the time we embark on the Inca Trail.
The Copacabana is covered in annoying people trying to sell us stuff and I accidentally got my sandals shined for 2 Reais (about 70p) by a little kid called Pedro. He did a decent job though on the one square cm of sandal that it was possible to shine. I would head hunt him for a shoe shine company any day.
Mike is now addicted to a cocktail that he can't remember the name of, but it is basically a Mojito minus the mint! The Brazilian beers are just fine too.
The bunk beds in our dorm aren't the smallest! And each of our individual beds is on the third tier so it is a bit tricky getting in and out and we are both fearing falling out of the beds! (Pictures of aforementioned beds will be coming to a computer screen near you soon)
Tomorrow we are hoping to go up to Sugar Loaf mountain and on a cable car. And we hope to watch a football final on Sunday between Flamengo and Botafogo at the Maracana (big football stadium for any family/people who don't understand football who are reading)
Hope all is well at home except the weather because we want all the sun.
Bye for now.
