James and Ellie in Europe
Day 13:
NOTE DAY 12 has been edited - please read footnote at the end.
Our first full day in Warsaw and we had an early start to deal with. Ellie's legend of a mum had found a Western Union place that was open for a few hours on a Saturday morning so we made our way there and picked up some money. James' mum had transferred money to his account but because it was a weekend chances were it wouldn't have come thru until Tuesday so we were very lucky to get this when we did!!
We walked back to the hostel and finally paid them for the room that they had basically given us on trust, thanked them profusely and finally got out of their hair!! Unfortuantely they had no beds for the night so we had to go across town to another hostel. The new hostel turned out to be all of 30 seconds from where had just collectd the money but what the hell we needed the exercise!!!
The new place was a lot different - it was in a big four storey old building that felt haunted and had no community as the previous one had done. The PS2 with all new games and the free internet terminals were nowhere to be seen but to be honest the quiet was nice and it was clean which was all that really mattered.
The vodka in Poland is fantastic as anyone who has tried Zubrowka (Zoo brewf ka) will testify and the beer ain't bad so we used a tiny amount of our new found wealth to sample the local alcohol over lunch :o)
By this time we had decided to carry on with the trip albeit avoiding night trains.
We had already used an extra day in Warsaw so we had to sacrifice two days camping in Dedinky National Park for the day in Warsaw and an extra day between Krakow and Bratislava to allow for the distances involved. We found another National Park near Zilina in central-west Slovakia and we were in effect back on schedule :o)
Sorry if that made no sense or bored you lol!!!
Anyway during the afternoon we looked around the old town of Warsaw and to be honest it really wasn't all that. We were entertained by a lot of street musicians including a guy/girl combo not disimilar to the White Stripes - the difference being the lady percussionist was actually talented ;o)
We bumped in to Razak (a fellow traveller who had also had his stuff stolen on the train - luckily for him he still had credit cards though) and he insisted on buying us dinner which was very cool of him indeed.
We headed to bed fairly early because we were still pretty run-down and emotional and had to cope with going back on to the trains again the next morning. Next stop the southern Poland city of Krakow (Crack oof).
Love ya
James and Ellie
