James and Ellie in Europe
DAY 14:
Nearly missed the train to Krakow this morning, but managed to get there just in time (with a new keyring for our collection). Arrived and was met by someone from the hostel and waited a little while for our free ride in the minibus! Woohoo!
Met an Irish couple - Chris and Tracy and planned a drink later.
At the hostel we had time for a quick shower before we went into town. First we got on the tram the wrong way (James trying to navigate using the sun again...)
then we found a veggie restaurant where we thought we would get a good meal (being already fed up of salad...)
In fact we had walked into the most random hippie cafe ever. No beer was allowed (it didn't go down very well when we asked) The place was full of wasps (James is deathly allergic) and the lasagne was cold and rather spinachy... and we quite like spinach... miss mums' cooking sooooooo much.... anyway...
After this rather distressing food related disater we decided to give Krakow another go and ventured further into town, where we found the main square with a lovely church and a cool market selling lots of dragon related items... does anyone know why this is.... that there are dragons everywhere in Krakow??
Ellie thought about when she was little and her Dad told her stories about Mandy the dragon (hehe) and James was worried if Sam (Rowe) ever came to Krakow he might cry... Puff the magic dragon memories... (sorry Sam).
Anyway... we listened to all the musicians about the old town, who were rather good, and made our way to the castle where we found more dragons. It is one of the strangest castles we have ever seen... unfortunately we did not see the inside, but from the outside it was a bit of a mish-mash... but very pretty.
After that we went back to the main square and had a drink. There was a drummer and brake dancers which was really cool and we met up with Tracy and Chris. They are both lovely and we reminisced about Belfast etc... excellent evening.
Many, many drinks later, we decided it was time to head back to the hostel... but first a trip to the bathroom, where we were all chased (at different intervals) by the lady in the bathroom who wanted her zloty (about 20p) for our use of the bathroom... she was very scary, and it became a game to see if you could get away without her chasing you up the stairs, out the restaurant, and across the square... we did pay eventually tho!
And with Ellie's excellent map reading skills and newly learnt Polish (everyone else was far too drunk by this point) we found our way home to bed.
