James and I were feeling a bit groggy today, a slight hangover, sore throat and E&M withdrawal symptoms began kicking in. We had intended on visiting Kamakara on a day trip today but a late start and a worrying look into our funds we decided against it. The only thing that could cheer us up now was food. Since James (Elfer) told me about Kobe beef I have always wanted to try it, unfortunately we didn't make it to Kobe and restaurants in the evening charge a fortune for the smallest taste. We got lucky, a place near our hostel is famous for its Kobe cuts and it had an early bird lunch special. The price was still dear but compared to the normal price it was a steal! Our last few yen went on the greatest piece of meat I have ever tasted. It literally melted in the mouth. Japanese food started off as a bit daunting and we had little to no idea about what was going on. It just got better and better and the longer we stayed, I think if I had tried one more morsel of delciousness we would have immediately moved to Tokyo!
We had most of the afternoon to spare before our flight and even though we had been to Akihabara district before we hadn't spent much time there and hardly saw any anime/manga things. We spent ages looking at the weird and wonderful toy collections and electronic goods. I had to tear James away from the 'maid' restaurant and he tore me away from the greatest fancy dress collection ever.
We had enough time to look around the impressive airport-complete with viewing platform, shopping mall and street themed food stalls.
We certainly had a 30th birthtwoweeks to remember and with our birthday money we were able to celebrate in style in one of our top three favourite countries!
