We arrived in Sydney 1 week ago (feels like 1 month ago though as we've been so busy!!) and we stayed in a Hostel called Chilli Blue for 4 nights. It was only meant to be for one, but as the front desk messed up our booking, they let us both stay in 1 bed in a dorm and only pay for 1, which was cosy to say the least, but at 2.50 each per night, we were happy! That included a decent breakfast, free internet and hot dogs! So we put up with that place whilst we were looking for a permanant flat and jobs.We looked at studios (basically a bed, living area and kitchen all in 1 room with the bathroom seperate!) and saw all sorts of places, but realised the price difference for a 1 bed apartment was hardly anything between us so we decided to settle for something a bit more comfortable and spacious! The one we chose is right inbetween the main shopping area, 15 minutes walk to the harbour, and 2 minutes from Kings Cross, where there are lots of bars and restaurants nearby. It also has an amazing kitchen compared to others we saw, all kitted out ready for our cooking experiments which (as sad as it sounds!) we love to do!! The apartment is next door to a Ferrari, Bentley and Motorbike garage (which Em's dad would love!) but we don't think we'll be buying anything there for a while! Although, we do now have jobs, which we're so happy about as so many people are struggling to get any work right now. It is in a Bar and Grill called Hurricanes, and is right in Darling Harbour (shown in the pic), about 15 minutes walk from our apartment. They are famous for their huge racks of ribs, which we have to put bibs on the customers for!! And also their monster steaks which James can't wait to use his discount for!! They've been really good to us, as they have a policy where they don't employ couples, but apparently we were very professional and they're even giving us our 2 days a week off together! Which means we can actually see Sydney, as we still haven't even seen the Opera House or Harbour Bridge yet!! We're also promoting a high-profile nightclub night called Hed Kandi, which is huge in Europe and just launching itself here next week. It's selling tickets on a commission basis in our free time, and has excellent potential earnings as we get half the ticket sales, so going to work hard at that! We also get free entry and drinks to the event, and a meal at the restaurant they have! Happy days!
We've both vowed to get back into shape (as 2 weeks in Fiji eating and drinking has taken its toll on the waistlines!) before the summer here (around september time) and so Em has joined a gym 2 blocks from the apartment which has lots of classes to keep her motivated! And James has joined the uni pool and runs there and back (about 25 minutes each way) with a swim inbetween! He wants to out-run his dad by the time he gets back!!
So that's pretty much all our news, we've got lots of people to meet up with that we met from our travels who live in Sydney, and also people from uni who are now living here too so we've got plenty to keep us busy!
Sending lots of love to everyone back home in the sunshine! xxxxx
