Woke up extra early this morning, before my alarm, due to pure excitement and an overactive mind running through lists of what I could have forgotten to pack. Fortunately, I had already gotten everything together the night before, and, with a last minute double check of my two bags that will carry everything I own for the next five months, I was satisfied that I was truly ready!
I left the camper that I had used as "home" for the last few days and drive out to Town & Country Motors where tatton's awesome dad Merrill would meet me to drop me off at the airport. We left with plenty of time to spare and were able to stop off at a neat little hometown bar/restaurant for some delicious KC BBQ and a house-brewed beer. It was a great way to say goodbye to Kansas!
We made it to the airport safely, I have successfully checked my bag, was randomly selected for a harder security check (which meant they swabbed my shoes for 'explosive dust particles') and am waiting by the gate as I type this. I guess it's comforting to know that my feet are not in danger of exploding on this trip. :) My plane is scheduled to take off at 3:45pm. Also, as I am writing this --and mind you, my first flight is heading towards Toronto, Canada before I continue southwards-- there are a group of older gentlemen standing around inside the gate area have a few brewskis and speaking in multiple languages (French, Swedish, English, etc) Are you even supposed to have beer in here?!? Well, they look fancy enough... That's all for now! See ya in Canada or South of the Equator!
