The day after tomorrow I will be boarding a plane heading for Santiago, Chile, with a few hours of layover in Canada. Yes, for some reason, I have to fly North to go South. Travel is backwards sometimes like that...
It will be summertime in South America soon so I am expecting temperatures in the 50-65F range in Coyhaique. However, it looks like I will be flying into some beautiful weather in Santiago (high of 73!) but will get colder as I travel south.
My plan is to stay a few nights in Santiago, exploring the city and hopefully receiving some travel arrangement help from whatever hostel I end up at that time. Next, I want to visit Valparaiso and Vina Del Mar for some beach action. From there I will bus southwards towards Chillan in a region known for volcanic hot springs (ahhhh -- relaxation!) and then perhaps jet over to the university city of Concepcion. It is the second largest city in Chile. Next will be either Temuco (depending on bus schedules/routes), Valdivia, or Pucon. I have read many great things about Pucon --described as a "backpackers paradise" on one website. From there I will either: A) take a 22 hour bus ride from Osorno to Coyhaique -or- B) take a 24hr ferry through the fjords and ice fields from Puerto Montt to Chacabuco and then a short bus to my hostel. I will check prices when I get closer to that area. The ferry leaves on the 3rd or 7th of November so I should be in Coyhaique at Patagonia Hostel by at least the 9th!
As for now, I am typing this in the Starbucks on Mass St in Lawrence, KS. (Thank you to the wardrobe ladies at the Circus for the gift card - I'm just now finally using it!) It's nice to be back here -- I will always have love for Lawrence. Passing by certain places I used to frequent make me really miss certain people, but also makes me so grateful that technology will allow me to keep in touch while I am away!
The last week in Nebraska was wonderful. Thank you to everyone for the hospitality and great memories (Mom & Dad; Tara & family; Hawraa, Sarah, & families; Cody, Ben, Natalia and NE tailgating crew; Erik, Greg, Kate, & Derrick; Keegan, Ava & family; Jayne). Thank you to Tatton for the iPod, various chargers, and support. Thank you to my parents for being awesome. Thank you to Missy for the card. Thank you Bill for the Disney music! And thank you to everyone else for all the well wishes and love that you've sent me. I appreciate it very much. :-)
