Malaysia
Hey, well malaysia wasnt supposed to be on my itinerary but i had to do a visa run for thailand and soo happy that i decided to go one of my better decisions . So traveling with jaff ( friend from back home) we got a flight down to the south of thailand near the malaysian border and crossed the border by foot, the only white people .. Infact the only people! crossing border by foot with a giant back pack in 30+ heat! So arrived in malaysia got a bus/taxi over to north east coast to make our way by speed boat to a small group of islands called the Perhentian islands, we went to the smaller of the islands called Paula perhentian kecil. Speed boat took about 45minutes to get there was a real bumpy ride. We got to the islands and it was like 'bounty island' was georgous very chilled out. We went to find somewhere 'cheap' to stay and we got it!! it was a beach hut tiny box room with a small bathroom next to it, the toilet was in the middle of the floor and the shower was a tap on the wall so it was a real task tryin to wash, the walls were that thin you could also here our neighbours take a shower and everything else in between!
Our first day we spent sunbathing on the beach crystal clear waters and white sand, then we got a BBQ at night had the biggest prawns and the food was so cheap! While we were on the islands we also done a boat trip and snorkelling, we seen a giant turtle, thousands of colourful coral fish and 2 reef shark! we also took an underwater camera so will have some really good photos. These islands are great if you want to chill out , snorkel ,dive and eat!
Left the islands to make our way to central malaysia to a place called the Cameron Highlands. We took a bus here about 5 hours. Temperature was much cooler here and it rained for an hour or 2 every day. So the scenery was a lot like Scotland , we actually compared it to Avimore in the summer. During our stay we went on a jungle trek which was amazing our tour guide rolled up in a massive jeep with 2 big bull horns on the front and he looked like an asian 'jack sparrow' so he took us through the jungle , jumping and climbing rivers and down gorges. He also showed us how to chop bamboo and drink water from it - which was suprisingly really fresh. We learned how to shoot poison arrow darts aswell just incase it ever came in handy!
We visited a tea plantation the biggest in asia and its owned by a scottish man or was its now his daughters so we got to try all different types of tea which was fun but in my opinion u cny beat a proper cuppa!
So after all our nature/jungle exploring we set of for KL!
In KL we stayed in china town which was always busling! Full of street vendors and small food courts were you can get a very good meal for less than £2 , and as its malaysia there is a whole variety of food, from
Indian currys, thai food and chinese. The food was the best curries I have tasted yet much prefer the malaysian food to thai food.
KL was really clean city and you can easily walk around and see the sights as everythin is very close together. So we went to the Petronas towers and went up to the top of the KL tower where you get the best views of the towers.
Also went on the open top tour bus to see the parts that we couldnt walk to,1 of the stops was a bird park which i didnt think a would enjoy as much as i did, but it was really good! quite scary when massive peacocks and pellicans are alloud just to walk/fly around freely! My friend got attacked by a cockatoo while getting a photo! Which was a highlight( for me anyway) there was a parrot section and you could buy feed and hold it out and about 20 parrots swooped down and landed on you, i lasted about 5 seconds and had to give the feed to jaff as i had about 4 birds in my hair and for those of you that know me i have issues with even humans touching my hair so i was outta there !
met up with some friends i had met on a previous tour in vietnam which was really good , so went out a few times and went to the pictures. We went to a place called reggae mansion which had a roof top bar which was really good at night( cover picture).
So after malyasia it was back to thailand we flew from KL to Krabi so we could do some of the islands on the Andaman coast which i hadnt done!
Next installment soon ,
