Hi guys, as we said on our last blog, we were staying in a really nice place in Ko Samui. We stayed there for five nights which was just about the right amount of time for us. The beach was really nice, one of the best we've been to yet. We settled into Ko Samui and soon found a local for our chocolate milkshakes! On our first night, we decided to check out the town. We first of all dedcided to just have a couple of quiet drinks..however after stumbling into the wrong kind of bar (honey w**** house!!) we were put into the mood to make it a big night! After the guys had to refuse a "special massage" from the bar maid in the honey bar, we walked along the main street and came across a man with a monkey, a real one! We all had a cuddle and it was so cute and fluffy! (Mummys can we have monkeys please?! Melissa wants to call hers Mon and Jades Key? aha!) After this we found the monkey bar, coincidence! It was amazing, there was statues of monkeys with their rudies out! Lindsey you would like it!..and the mummys! haha! We sat on the beach drinking endless "pink pussys" watching the fire dancers. It didn't take us long until we took over the dance floor! Melissa decided it would be a good idea to have shots of sambuca..but over here they add coffee beans..your supposed to chew them, i swallowed them with the shot!! eugh! One of the fire dancers came and danced right next to lou lou while we were sat down, nearly caught hair on fire! aha. We had the best night and the walk home was really quite funny! (Praying to all the Buddhas we came across!)
The next day we chilled out on the beach, we fell in love with sweetcorn that they sell on the side of the roads. 20 baht a pot! yummy bargain! In the evening, we decided to go for a curry but on the way there we got absolutely drenched as it was the start of the Thai new year which is a massive water festival. It was fun joining in with all the locals even though we werent prepared for it and we had all our possessions on us! We then knew that we had to prepare for the next day which is the main day of the festival. We spent all day out on the streets with our water guns. All the thais are really friendly, they all say happy new year and cover you in water and put talcum powder and white paint on your faces. It was a really cool atmosphere and were really glad we were a part of it. There were a lot of lady boys around and they took a slight liking to the boys which Matt wasnt very impressed with when she/he cavorted infront of him with his or her boobs and hairy armpits out! haha!
On one of the days, we took moped taxis to Bo Phut beach which is next to fishermans village. Apparantly the sunset was meant to be really nice but we couldnt get to the right spot and Jade fell asleep and missed it! haha. We ate in a nice australian bar, fish and chips and fajitas..our favourites!
The next day we went to La mai beach, the home of the grandmother and grandfather rocks...These are rocks in the shapes of rudies! But there was only one winky and one minky so bit of a letdown but still funny and we had a nice day.. All the locals wanted pictures with us! (Everyone here thinks were from sweden?!) That night we went back to Chaweng and spent the evening on the beach, drinking redbull which is illegal back in England! We talked about the solar system whilst looking at the stars and thinking about all of you that will see the same ones that night :)
Next night was Songram, music festival which Judge Jules was Dj'ing at. So out came the buckets of vodka and red bull and we danced the night away! There was a really hot man playing a little drum thing stood at the front, he kept our attention all night! :P We then got a taxi back but didnt quite understand where we were staying so he dropped us in a random place..then we had to get another taxi back! Idiots!
During the thai new year, they all have little gatherings on the beach, singing and dancing around with their musical instruments! They consume a lot of whiskey and kept giving us the bottle! They all kept chucking people in the sea with their clothes on! Was quite funny to watch!
On our last night, we had an early night as we were leaving for Koh Tao in the morning.
After 2 and a half hours on the ferry, we arrived in Koh Tao quite burnt from the boat and Matt dropped his ipod in the sea.. oops! We then had to treck to find a place to stay, we looked at some awful places, including a massive millipede in the toilet..it had to be a definate no no! We would have had to hold hands all night and scream every five minutes! After looking at 3 places, we came across Koh Tao island resort, really nice but no air-con so we were all suffering a bit with just a fan! We were staying on Sairee beach which is one of the main beaches with all the diving schools and night life. But it wasnt actually a nice beach, lots of coral due to it being a diving area. We booked three nights here. On the first night, what was supposed to be a few quiet drinks turned into the guys drinking a bottle of Vodka each and being absolutely hammered! It was funny because they had to go to bed and then we went on out! Matt was sick down the side of his bed and when we came back we drunkenly covered him in Anti-haestemin cream! It was a fun night and we found our local, Bans or the fishbowl bar! On the second day we went off in search of something to do as the boys wanted to go snorkelling but we didnt want to do it without an instructor. We ended up spontaneously booking on to do a beginners half day dive course. Our instructor was called Adam, he was from Canada and really nice. First of all we had to sit down and talk about educational stuff about the equipment and the depth of the sea. He kept asking us questions and we would both just look at each other and laugh as we wouldnt know the answers! Whats the biggest air space in your body?!! Lungs???? Who would of known that! hahaha. After he educated us, he took us out on a long boat which was really scary, felt like it would tip over every time you would move! We then put all our equipment on and got into the sea wearing our wetsuits and flippers! After a while of getting used to the breathing, he deflated us and we sunk to the bottom of the sea and had to go through 4 breathing exercises whilst we were sat on the bottom. These were quite scary as you had to remove your regulator and find it again whilst breathing out. After this we were under the water for half an hour following Adam who was pointing out all the fishys and pretty coral. We kept waving at each other but couldnt give eye contact as we would laugh and probably die! Melissa had a panic attack under water, thought it would be a good idea at the time to take out the regulator that gives me the oxygen, turns out it was a bad idea as Adam had to save me and shove it back in my mouth!
After half an hour we had to go back in, but Adam thought it would be nice to swim back in instead of getting the boat so sent the boat away and we started to swim back. Turns out it was a nightmare, the coral was really high and we both ended up slashing our hands and legs. Jades got a massive cut on her leggy, she keeps telling people its a shark bite! haha. The next day we hired out Kayaks, and we were a little annoyed because our handy cuts were hurting when holding the oars so we attached our kayak to the boys and they pulled us along! We know how to do it! haha! Later on in the day we went and played mini-golf which started off really fun but was probably the hottest day so far so we all got a little agitated especially with all the flies that were swarming around us! That evening we had a bbq for dinner, it was absolutely amazing! It was our last night in Koh Tao so we went back to our local, Bans..and sat on bean bags on the beach drinking vodka and lime listening to good music and watching the thunder and lightning storm from the next island. Jade saw a massive crabby and got scared! Shes now got crab-a-phobia! No joke! She dont like the sea!
The next day we had to check out at 10 but overslept slightly and woke up at 9.45 without any packing done! oops! Even though we had to check out in the morning we werent actually leaving till 7.30 in the evening as we did the night ferry to Phuket. So we spent the day chilling reading books and taking a trip to the pharmacy. Turns out Melissa's bites turn into blisters all over her feet so the lady nursey made me sit on a bed and got out her needles! ouchy! That night we got on the ferry about 8 and it left around 9. We had beds even though there were tiny! We've never been so scared as it was quite a stormy night and it was a rickety old boat with holes in! Everyone thought we were guna capsize, to the point of putting on their life jackets! It was extremely rocky. We were on the ferry for 8 hours, which wasnt too bad when we finally got to sleep. We then had a 5 hour coach journey leaving at 7 in the morning, so arrived in Phuket about 12 midday today. Were staying at Phuket backpackers hostel in Phuket town. Its actually really cool, really travellery. It feels quite similar to Bangkok, not like the other islands but seems really nice so far, and very cheap which we like!! That's all for now... hope everyones okay at home...missing you all, lots of love xxxxxxxxx
ps... this isnt meant to sound rude, but we've been trying to work it out, who is Mr. Thomas?? (Is it tom hambridge?) were a little confused! Sorryyyy!! :)
