Bula Everyone!!
So we arrived at Auckland airport all ready to hit the sandy beaches of Fiji to be told that Charlie would not be allowed to travel with his passport as it was damaged (from going in the sea with it a few too many times). As it was a weekend the embassy was not open, so we said our goodbyes to jade and headed back to a very rainy auckland! We had rebooked our flights for the wednesday, however when we went to the embassy on monday they said that charlies passport would not be ready in time for that flight! So Aimee flew out to fiji on her own and spent the next two days on a sunny beach where she waited for charlie to join her on the thursday evening! Once all the drama was over we jumped on a boat and headed upto Coral view resort which is 5 hours away from Nadi. Once we got off the boat we were given a great fijian welcome with all the staff singing to us. Here we spent 4days during which; we went Kayaking in glass bottom boats being able to see all the reef fish and coral over to Blue lagoon, Snorkling where we saw a few sea snakes one that got a little to close for comfort and of course lots of sunbathing! Every night there we were entertained by the fijians singing and dancing, it was a great atmosphere!
Our next stop was the Wanna Taki cruise where we only spent one night, when we arrived we were greeted with coctails and then taken out snorkling. That evening after dinner we had an international crab race; where u all buy a crab and the first one to get to the outside off the circle wins. Unfortunatly neither of ours won. The rest of the evening we played silly party games whilst drinking FMU coctails, followed by numerous drinking games. It was a really funny night and we were with a great group of people. The next morning we were woken up nice and early by a jappenese man playing a ukelele over the speakers telling us to wake up and who didnt stop speaking until everyone was awake. That morning we went kayaking over to an island near the boat and once back spent the afternoon jumping off the sides of the boat into the sea. After having done that a few times for the rest of the day we both seemed to have water constantly coming out of our noses..which wasnt the most attractive thing.
We then headed to Waya Lailai island, every morning in Fiji you are woken up by someone banging on drums telling you that breakfast is ready, so by this point we felt pretty knackered. On our first night here there was a Kava ceremony, Kava is their traditional drink and it is absolutly disgusting it tastes and looks like muddy water. However it is very rude not to drink it so you must finish the whole bowl. This was followed by a traditional fijian buffet which we had to eat with our hands which was extremly messy, the food was very strange and i dont think that either of us will be eating it again. The next day we visited a local village. Here we were shown around the schools and when we went into the infant school there was only 4 children there and they sung a few songs for us. Its absolutly great to see how they live and they are all so welcoming. On the way back to the resort all the children got on the boat with us as they were going home for the weekend. We also went reef snorkling in waya Lailai and this time we were fortunate to be able to see atleast 10 reef sharks which got really close to you, we were even able to touch them. It was a great experience. For our last night here the fijians performed several dances including a fire dance which are so enjoyable to watch, we also had to join in in various games, the bula dance and the weather dance. They are definately the happiest people we have ever met and make everthing so much fun.
Our last island stop was Southsea which is the smallest island in the mamanuca group of islands and it takes about 30 seconds to walk around the whole thing. Here we only spent one night however neither of us were feeling great so we didnt do much here. Aimee went on a submarine one morning to see the reef and that was about it. We spent the rest of the day feeling rather drained so just chilled around the pool!
We arrived back in Nadi last night and are here all day and then we fly to LA this evening. Half the people we have met during are time in fiji our on the same flight as us so it should be fun!
Speak to you soon
Lots of Love Aimee and Charlie
