Yes, we are still in Bangkok!! Have been rather busy running around sight seeing and shopping till the wee hour of the morning! The full group of 20 have now arrived to welcome in the new year tonight up in the revolving restaurant. Couple of evenings ago we wanted to see what the red light district is like, maybe we were there too early, nothing much to see except there were already girls all sitting in a row, waiting for custom!! We then decided to take the subway to our next stop but got lost so asked for direction, after following the instruction, there was no sign of any subway, till we saw the brightly lit green subway sign, when we burst out laughing - we were directed to the subway fast food store!! More enquiries and finally we were off.
We found the food court at terminal 21 shopping centre a really cheap place to eat. We had 2 mains each and dessert, only cost us a couple of hundred bahts!!! Bargain!
Spent a whole day at the chat tu chak weekend market, where we tried the best cendol in Bangkok, yum!! Then had lunch at the or tor kor market! There were thousands of shops and millions of people!!
We also hired a van, and went to a couple of floating market. The first one was a bit of a disappointment. It was the Damnoensaduak market, too touristy, then in the afternoon we went to the Amphawa market, that was what we thought a floating market should be. Ate lots of seafood sitting by the river facing all the various boats in front of us and just point!!
We also had a lot of fun on the way, trying out roasted coconut juice and the coconut flower nectar - both really sweet no added sugar!! Also stopped at this amazing market that is on the railway line, when the train was approaching, all the shades came down, the veggies get move off the line and the train roll by, the carriages just missing the displayed fruits and vegetables, as soon as the train have passed it all came back up again, all in a blink of the eye!!
Yesterday we went to Ayuthaya- where we visited the King's summer palace and a couple of Wats, then cruise down the Chao Praya river back to Bangkok, enjoying a buffet lunch on board. As soon as we got back, rush off to Pratunum again for more shopping!
Today is a free and easy day. So we went wondering down Sampeang Lane, where everything is really cheap, great if you have use for them!
Tonight is the buffet dinner up on the 25th floor of the hotel. That's where we will be welcoming in 2014! Hope we will be facing the fireworks when midnight strike!!
