Yikes! It's been a little while.. looks like I owe an update!
I promised an update about my trip to Cadiz for Carnival. Carnival is basically Mardi Gras and Halloween combined, only without the beads, and a lot more alcohol. Not exactly my cup of tea, but here's a summary of my day, with some fun details:
8am: Meet at the bus. Check out everybody's cool costumes. My favorite was a group of guys who all dressed up as the Pope. Perfect timing for his resignment!
11:30am: Food/Potty/Smoke break. The place we stopped had 2 bathrooms. There were a few hundred of us. Longest. Pit stop. Ever.
1:30pm: Arrive in Cadiz. Let the festivities begin!
3:00pm: Snack time. We stopped at a fish market and got a huge basket of different types of sea food. I wish I could explain what I ate.. but I decided not to ask. It's a good thing I love seafood because if you aren't a big fan of things that swim, you definitely won't be after walking past the seafood section in the market. I'm pretty sure I saw sting rays for sale..
4:00pm: Let me get straight to the point. This is when everyone starts drinking. The town center is filled with crazies in costumes.. and that's that.
10:30pm: Head to the beach. Although it was only about 40 degrees, the beach was a nice change of scenery. The town center was getting a little claustrophobic.
2:00am: Sleep on the bus. Our bus was scheduled to head back to Granada at 3:00am.. we didn't actually leave until 4:00am. Most buses headed back at 6:00am! Crazy!
8:00am: Arrive back in Granada.
Overall, Carnival in Cadiz was a bit much for me. The experience was a must, but I don't think I could handle it again. The good news is I have lots of ideas for Halloween, 2013! Hello, Whatsapp. That one beats the Pope boys!
(For any non-smartphone users, Whatsapp is a free texting application, specifically for international texting. It's all the rage )
I promise that my next update will not be 2-3 weeks from now. I've just been so busy with classes and studying..
Don't forget to check out my pictures from Cadiz!
