We decided to skip our prejudice fix at breakfast today and sleep in a bit, up at 10am packing for check out.
The hotels been great agreeing to hold our luggage while we head off exploring Johor Bahru. We get dropped at the city square mall and find it's much like any mall really - all branded clothing and pricey. Walking through we exit to a street opposite and find a couple of second hand shops - we end up spending over an hour in one.
Jacq has never been a fan of second hand stuff but this place might have converted her. She finds Matt genuine Ralph Lauren chino shorts, he finds a Hilfiger top, Levi's top, and a pair of chino trousers, a genuine Polo shirt and another t shirt - £11!!!! For the lot!! These guys have far too much money to throw around!
They have loads of proper designer gear from Diesel - Burberry, only drawback being their ladies' clothes are more suited to 13-year-old girls and Jacq can't get anything to fit her size 14 calves - predictably as Matt acquires a new wardrobe Jacq is raging!
So, we tour around and then grab a cab back to the hotel at Blue Wave and decide it's time we used the 20% voucher for the Indian restaurant on site. Jacq grabs the "wedding couple" seats and we order chicken spring rolls (amazing) she has a vindaloo which is surprisingly mild and Matt has his usual tikka masala chicken - the meal is Ace and the two jugs of beer certainly help ;)
We sit stuffed in the Lobby and meet Andrew, an Austrian over here on business who lives in Australia with a house on the lustrous Gold Coast. He introduces us to his Malaysian colleagues Lim, Jim & Harvey - they build retirement villages and Andrew is employed as a consultant over for a few days. He gives us good tips on what to do on route and gives Matt his email address suggesting we drop him a line when we arrive so he can take us for coffee and give us some guidance.
We head off to the train station and grab a cab from Kranji at $30. Singapore airport is beautiful, so slick and we find the famous "social tree" where we can take pictures and videos to post on Facebook, and board around 11pm arriving in Darwin at 5am waiting for a connecting flight at 10am onto Cairns - it's all so exciting now!!! We arrive 10 hours ahead of the UK.
