Day 1 Lands End- St Austell
I'm lying down in my very cosy one man tent covered in creams and gels which have the tough job of trying to relax my very tired muscles.
We covered about 60 miles today, almost double my previous furthest journey, however unlike the relative flatness of London, Cornwall consists of long steep ascents where our maximum speed was no more than 6-8 mph followed by very fast descents, one of which we managed to reach 44mph on the way down.
The route so far has been relatively quiet as we have sought to evade main roads in exchange for the less direct country lanes from which you gain a far better perspective of the countryside and experience much better views.
Overall I think today has been a huge wake up call of the sheer scale of the task ahead of us and how mad I was to sign up to this without thinking of what it entailed. However my first day has also been very exciting and interesting and I look forward to tomorrow as we head northwards for the first time.
