Today I received the devastating news that I would be unable to complete the race after 486 miles of hard riding from Lands End to Kendall. In the end a sports injury specialist said that I would be crazy to carry on cycling as my knee could not withstand anymore cycling.
The diagnosis was substantial cartilage damage which meant that my knee cap slipped out of place briefly. The only way of recovering from this sort of injury would be to rest it, effectively ending my cycle.
Despite being gutted to be unable to continue, I have vowed to finish the second half of the trip as soon as my knee is fit.
However I am not completely disconcerted. I have learnt a great deal over the course of this trip, seen some amazing sights and met some extraordinary people. I have really caught the bug for adventure, as well as long distance cycling and will not doubt be undertaking another trip very soon.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone that has helped me along the way of my trip; my family who housed us and fed us, David and Ann who generously put us up and fed us for a night, and finally, everybody who donated and sent messages of encouragement which really did make a massive difference.
