So, yesterday was a quiet day.. No big spending! Not like tiger kingdom and today when we went off on another Thai adventure..
Just a few local market visits and some tasty food :).
Today started with an 8 am get up to get showered and ready for an 8.30 pick up from our guesthouse in a songthaew (a converted red pickup truck) which, whisked us and a few others off to the local market to start our day of Thai cooking.. We had the head of the staff taking us, MB who was a lovely Thai lady with the most infectious smile and laugh.. Within minutes we knew this was going to be a wonderful day :). In the market there was all sorts of fresh produce, so fresh that most of it was still moving! She explained how rice is grown and picked and then which to choose depending on which meal.. She then showed us a man who was making coconut cream and milk by hand and let us wander the market for a few minutes.. In which milly had found two little kittens to stroke.. Surprise surprise! Then back on the bus, we were amongst Americans, French and Dutch groups, so we chatted about our experiences so far and learnt a few good tips and shared our own.. :) when we arrived at he farm to start our cooking we were shown around their herb garden, tasting and picking our ingredients such as, lemongrass, chillies and even some star fruit. Then we were in the kitchen for what was going to be a lot of food for one day, some of which at this point in time we have not eaten! The lovely smells and sound of laughter coming out of the kitchen was fantastic.. And for all at home you can look forward to some Tom yam soup, pad Thai, pork with basil leaves, sweet&sour and many more!
After stuffing our faces with some of our very own Thai food it was time to go home and we said our goodbyes and wandered back to our room.
One smoothie and a beer later here we are in our room, very fond memories of Chiang Mai so far, we have a bus booked for the morning to pai, where we will ride and bathe with elephants, float on bamboo rafts down the river pai and swim in forest waterfalls! Can't wait!!
