Having just spent all night on a bus to bkk, we arrived at 5 am, rushed to he train station to catch a bus to ayutthaya. 3 hours later we were there.. Back to the harassment of tuk tuk drivers and guest houses.. Somehow we were pleased about this.. :) we arrived at the place we had chosen beforehand, set as a typical Thai teak bamboo house with a lotus pond.. Beautiful.. And cheap!! We wanted to make the most of the scorching hot day! Finally sunshine and not miserable rain like in Mae sot :) we rented bicycles and explored the old ruins :) what a great way to get around for 40 baht for 24 hours we could see all the sights and with a nice breeze.. The temples were fantastic and it was nice to learn some history too.. Ayutthaya was the capital of Thailand in the 1400s during king Rama 1s reign and so on.. Then was ransacked by the burmese later on.. Even the temples were destroyed and many of the Buddha images were beheaded.. We made stops in some great markets, saw elephants, and got a little but burnt in the sun! We had some nice food and a beer or two whilst chilling, as tomorrow we were going to kanchanaburi for a few days to see the death railway :) very happy to be here and looking forward to carrying on with our holiday!!
