Next stop, kanchanaburi.. 2 nights here then onto the south!! First day, we explored the nearby area and headed for the night bazaar.. Some nice food had and milly found some nice bargains too.. Then we went to the local bar for a mojito or two :) lots of bars here with creepy old western men surrounded by Thai women (possibly men too?), funny but creepy.. The next day we visited the death railway, the death railway museum and the pow cemeteries. We first went to the museum which had first hand accounts, interesting facts and gruesome stories. 16000 pow's died working the 400 km railway and 60000 Thai workers and also many other nationalities suffered as well. The condition promised were better than what was delivered.. The brutal 18 hour working days on 1000 (rotten) calories the pow's had a day was not enough, so many died of malnutrition and beri-beri. Many other tropical diseases (malaria, cholera and typhoid). The cemetery was so well kept, many came to pay their respects to family members, and others like us just to see the vast grounds.. We then went to see the railway itself.. The bridge over the river kwai. Which, is actually over the Mae khlung river (renamed after the film appeared). It was nice the see it after learning the history.. We then saw a baby leopard cub being taken on a bus of tourists in a cage smaller than maisie's headed to the safari.. Poor thing :( we then headed back to the hotel, the jolly frog. The only way was a motorbike taxi.. This man was crazy.. We agreed 40 baht, whilst driving he started slapping my leg, harder and harder saying 50, so in the fear that we would crash and die I said yes.. We arrived, alive.. He then tried to get us to pay 60 baht.. We said no, gave him fifty and left for some dinner.. We had a Mongolian BBQ! So much fun! A big coal dish in front of us and a plate of meat in a marinade :) yumyumyum!! We went out that night and had our first bucket.. A bucket consists of 6 shots of whiskey, filled with ice and some coke.. All for 100 baht.. Needless to say we enjoyed his rather strong drink and played some pool, our game gradually deteriorated :p we had fun and headed home after convincing a shut shop to cook us some mango sticky rice! Tomorrow the national park awaits us... It should be good fun!!
