So today with the jet lag starting to wear off and the English summer being so disappointing we were looking forward to some sun... And we got it! We woke up at 9 and headed down for some breakfast.. Shrimp soup.. An oddly satisfying way of starting the day. Then we decided we wanted to wander about and do some exploring and then head off to wat pho and the grand palace.. About 2 minutes out of the door and we were offered tuk tuk tours of various tailor shops etc. we began getting better at using the word no and even learnt it in Thai - Mai ka. After a hectic sunny walk past flocks of school children and tuk tuk drivers we reached the park by the grand palace... At which point we started noticing men carrying umbrellas, which we now know means that they're planning on staying out in the sun all day to trick the tourists.. Many said that the temple is closed today or that we were wearing the wrong clothes.. However, we persevered and when we reached the temple we were relieved to hear a tannoy announcing that no one outside the gates was to be trusted and that it is open and appropriate clothing is available free inside. :) what a fantastic place.. The 45 metre golden reclining Buddha built by Rama 3 was so impressive and all of the surrounding bots and statues were level to this, with glowing green mosaics and the rooftops glimmering in the sun. Now back in our room we are excited to move on to Ching Mai and for our day of exploring tomorrow. Decided to head out this evening to khao San road and thanon rambrutti for some lovely pad Thai and sticky rice... Milly was super excited for some sticky mango rice but sadly they were all out! So we are yet to have our favourite Thai dessert. On the way back home we saw plenty of little cute cats and a few nasty cockroaches and even one ladyboi!! Also we could have had some crunchy looking deep fried bugs for a mere 30 baht but we were not feeling particularly courageous so opted out in disgust. Not sure when we will have Internet again as we are braving the 751 km train up to Chang Mai overnight Tomorrow.. Hopefully we will have some stories to tell ... :)
