In order to practice using my camera and to keep my friend Stu company on a business trip I have been in Spain from Thursday 24th May until Sunday 28th May.
I was being picked up a 3.45am so I knew that I needed to get a decent sleep to make sure that I didnt sleep through my alarm. Having gone to bed at about 11pm my lovely drunken friend Stu text me at midnight to ask me to phone him at 3am (half an hour before I needed to get up) to make sure he was up. I cant repeat the name I called him when the text woke me up.
Thanks to Andy for getting us to the airport on time. Unlike the last time I accompanied Stuart on one of these trips we managed not to miss the flight and were in sunny Alicante by about 11am. Stuart was complaining of being bored on the plane within about 20 minutes of taking off so I took the precaution of going to sleep.
The company Stuart works for put us up in a lovely hotel overlooking the harbour on one side and the beach on the other. It is just a short walk in to the old town and there are plenty of bars and restaurants around.
On Friday Stuart had to accompany his customers and colleagues on a trip to the Alhambra factory. As this was probably his 3rd tour I think he was more than a little bit jealous that I got to go to the beach instead. I practiced being on the beach on my own which is fine except for the fact that you cant go in the sea to cool down in case someone runs off with your bag! Never mind I watched 6 Spanish men playing volleyball instead, it was hell!
Having seen a girl tightrope walking on a strap lashed to two palm trees on the day before Stu was pleased to see that the Spanish boys were just as keen to show off. One of them was busy climbing barefoot up the palm in front of a small group of girls. Unfortunately he lost his grip at the top and slid all the way down it resulting in some nasty grazes. Stuart could barely contain his giggles!
That evening we were taken out but Xavier, Remmy and Sauro from Alhambra. The restaurant was amazing, a roof terrace about 4 stories up overlooking the old town. Alicante castle was lit up on top of the hill and there were some fireworks which I somehow managed to miss. The food was fantastic although it did appear that we were out with the fussiest eaters in the world (Stu included), thank God Xavier was there to put in all the special orders for the vegetarians, those that want decaf, those that want no garlic, those that want to change their order etc. Anyway everyone got what they wanted in the end.
After dinner Stu, me and his customers (Mina and Arun) went on for a couple of extra drinks. We ended up in Coyote Ugly which Arun and Stu seemed to enjoy very much! Either Stu is suddenly a big fan of Europe and Bon Jovi or it was the girls dancing on the bar which was making him smile. Arun seemed quite taken with them too!
Saturday we spent the afternoon with Stu's colleague Diane and her partner Gary exploring the old town and having a lazy Spanish style lunch at the harbour. In the evening Stu and I had decided that we would like to have a nice meal together on our own as I wouldnt be seeing him for a while. We headed out to the harbour to a nice restaurant but decided to have just one drink on the way. Unfortunately we kind of lost track of time, by the time we got to the restaurant it was shut and we ended up eating in the place that looked like a chippy next door. Finally we met up with 6 of the others in our party back at Coyote Ugly.....Arun was there with his camera!
I had a great time, all of the people were really good fun. I lost my phone which did cause a minor panic but luckily someone handed it in at reception.
Thanks Stu
