Last time we wrote we were just leaving our favourite little place..El Bolson. From there we went north to a place called Bariloche, another lakeside town again very beautiful but much cooler than El Boslon. The town is is famous for its chocolate..they claim it to be the "best in the world"!!! The main street is lined with little choc shops and factories...you can just imagine the "trouble" we got ourselves into...chocloate was the staple food..even drink...yep they even had chocolate beer!!
From there, we ventured back into Chile and explored their lake district areas..more random hiking|rock climbing as "map boy" once again led us on one of our "strolls"!!! We climbed Villarica Volcano in Pucon...another crazy adventure..the volcano is very active and is constantly smoking away at the top. It is a perfect cone shape and the steepest "thing" we've ever climbed!! We were geared up with ski boots, crampons. helmets and ice picks..along with some wonderful bright orange jacket and pants outfit..will send pics later...we looked ...fabulous!!! It took 6 hours to get to the top and seriously you just had to step one foot after another, without looking down, not for one afraid of heights let me tell you!! The views from the top made it rewarding, couldn't stay for long as the 'smoke' at the top was really toxic!! Now for the best part, to get down again, we quite simply slid down the mountain...it was awesome!! The speed we were going was crazy..made all that effort getting to the top so worth it!! We were still buzzing that night but the next day my god we were paying for it...red rudolf noses from wind burn, black and blue shins from the boots, blistered feet, aching muscles..everywhere!!...but still happy!! We've now decided no more crazy stuff..it's all about exploring the numerous vineyards that the middle of the country has to offer!!
We leave for Santiago tomorrow then 'pop' back over into Argentina to visit the Mendoza wineries for a few days before catching our flight to Sydney on the 28th.
