It's been a pretty chilled day today, I slept in till 7.30 so definitely missed the bus, but last night learnt all about the uber hype of KK. It's amazingly cheap, so I got a taxi to Likas for 8RM- confirmation of my ripping off yesterday! Went on 3 ward rounds this morning- there are two ward rounds on each ward each morning- one by the medical officer, then a repeat by the specialist. It was pretty long watching them both but saw some cool stuff! There were cases of TB, Dengue fever, pertussis(!), and even one case of cri-du-chat. The rounds were slightly better today than yesterday- if you ask enough questions, eventually someone will explain what's happening! After the ward round, I met up with the boys and we went to the canteen for a little while (/3 hours) and played cards/ate food. The canteen is open air so it was really nice to be sat in the sun having a bit of a break! Afterwards, teaching was on case-based radiology which definitely was over all of our heads, then we shared an über home at around 3. This afternoon has been so chilled, I hung out with Edith for a while then chatted to a German girl who has lived here for about a year now. I also bumped into a group of world challengers, and had a chat with their teachers/leaders (god I'm old!) about my Vietnamese memories. Once they went out, I headed up to the rooftop terrace to catch some rays and read my book for a few hours.
Having done some research online, I headed to the number one advised food place in KK- a Hungarian joint, where I had Mexican food. This place really is a melting pot of cultures! The taxi drivers always tell me but it's interesting to experience it for yourself. Anyway, the food was obviously glorious and now I'm back home, planning on an early night for a change (bloody body clock had me awake till 2.30 last night!). The boys aren't coming in tomorrow but im finally meant to be meeting my supervisor, so hopefully it's a good day!
