So we arrived back in Bangkok were we spent a few days before heading south to the islands. Half an hour in to our journey and the bus broke down. We had to spend 7 hours sitting on a stationary bus before the replacement arrived. We eventually arrived south in Surat Thani were we caught a boat to our first island Koh Samui. The next couple of days we spent chilling on the white beaches; the nights we spent in the bars.
Our next stop was the neighbouring island of Koh Phangan, the home of the fullmoon party. We stayed in a beach hut 20mtrs from the beach, it was amazing. We had a couple of days to kill before the fullmoon so we rented out some motorbikes. We started off slow but our confidence soon grew and we were flying around, t-shirts off and everything. The island being so small makes it easy to get around. Finally the day of the fullmoon had arrived and excitement was everywere. As the day grew later we got changed and met everyone in the restaurant area were we started to get our drink on. The drinks were in full flow, and the free barbeque was goin down well. Midnight arrived and we all got the bus to Haad Rin beach (the fullmoon party). Every fullmoon the beach of Haad Rin is rammed with thousands of people covered in luminous body pant carrying their buckets of alcohol, and tonight was no different. WE arrived on the beach to a sea of people, all dancing away to the music blaring from the many bars. Fire breathers and jugglers were showing their talents to the crowds. Not a cloud in the sky the stars were out in full and the bright moon hung ominously over the beach, the weather could not have been better. We partied till the early hours of the morning and watched as the sun replaced the moon. What a great party!
We had a couple of days before leaving the island which we spent recuperating, and kicking american ass at voleyball.
We swapped the east coast for the west and headed to Phuket, Thailands largest island. Phuket, in particular Pataya beach, is very Bangkok-ish with its bar street. Whilst in Phuket we met up with Lisa + Erica the two oz girls we met in Cambodia. We hit the bars and chilled by the beach for the next few days. We booked a tour to see the Phi Phi islands (were the film The Beach was filmed), we went snorkelling and had lunch on the island. On our last day we decided to get a tattoo and after much deliberation had chosen the design and agreed on a price. Heading back later that day the tattooist decided that the price was to cheap and that it would cost us more. So in the end we left tattooless. Ed decided that he was goin to have a look around the town whilst we went for a few drinks. As we got back late it wasnt till the next morning that we realised that Ed had actually got a tattoo done after we left him. What a sneaky russian.
We caught our bus further south to the border crossing. We had to stay in a small town before crossing the next day and to get there we had to go through road block after road block, thai army men holding big machine guns, we didnt exactly feel safe arriving at night.
