Two Chicks & a Climber Reach New Heights
The four great girls from Sarawak came up to KK for the weekend seeing that their primary school is closed for two weeks due to the hand, foot and mouth disease. Seven primary kids have died from this outbreak but hopefully the situation is controlled for when they return to their placements.
Was bundles of fun catching up with them and we hit the regular club, BED (this name is annoying as it really confuses people to whether we heading to bed as in to sleep or to bed, the club). Georgie, Kirsty and I got called up on stage by the band. We got partnered up and we were thinking that it was going to be some kind of dancing competition. But then we were given a shocking example of what was expected of us. We were to do tequila body slammers (bearing in mind we're in an Islamic country and we never usually see people even holding hands here), the two locals proceeded to pour salt over the most attractive part of each other, down a tequila test tube and sook on a lemon. Was like 'Urrr-no, don't think so', directly exited the stage with many disappointed 'Boo's from the audience. They asked for different volunteers and we managed to persuade Chez (one of the girls from Sarawak) to partake in the escapade. What a good sport she is! After the OTT local couple got it on, she had to participate with a dodgy guy and bear her back being licked, was hilarious yet we all thought it was really out of order in this country, their cultures just NOT like that!
Met Kirsty's Mum and Gran, think they were rather culture shocked when they first arrived in Sabah that they won't use any other toilets apart from their hotel one. They visited the Asrama with a happy atmosphere on Monday evening, the excited kids rushed up to them, eager to talk to them and admired their fair white complexion. They were pretty stunned to how Kirsty has coped here for the past three months. Hey, it isn't that bad but then again, I'm used to the way of life here.
April is the English month at DPM just like recycling was the theme last month. I am expected to give a powerpoint presentation on what the U.K is like at the end of the month to the whole assembly *nervous chuckle*. Kirsty was meant to be in charge of showing the Ceilidh Scottish dance, songs and poems tomorrow but she is away to Sarawak for a week with her Mum and Gran, which I am now responsible for. Luckily, Kirsty taught her 4A class the dance so just have to rehearse it with them tomorrow morning.
Last week, when the Scottish sports took place out on the fields, the boys team won, the celebratory response got a bit out of control and Farhan decided to jump onto the football goals and accidentally pulled it onto himself, pinning himself to the ground. He was pouring with sweat and obviously trying not to cry, he'd completely crushed his hand and it had a nice blue twinge to it as well as some increasing swellage. Nasty, he was swiftly transferred to the medical room. Only to realize that when he came to school the next day, he had broken his arm!
Now, the parents of Farhan have filed a formal complaint on Kirsty for Farhan's broken arm, which was clearly his own fault. Kirsty is now made out as the 'bad guy' by other teachers (yes, teachers do gossip *glances at the MH teachers*) and the English department are going to have a meeting with Farhan's parents this weekend. I assume that Farhan's parents are wealthy if the English department are so concerned about the whole scenario.
Taught 1K this morning using those canny X-men comics that were brought out here from Scotland. Their English is very weak that they couldn't read what the bubbles said. So instead, I got them to look at the pictures and use their vivid imagination to come up with a storyline that they had to act out. Resulted in the students rolling with laughter at others acting out the odd 'Ka-Bow-Wow' moves.
Seeing that the kids think I am all alone and I must be scared of the 'ghosts' in my room that they have been pestering me to sleep in my room to keep me 'company' (really, they'd use any excuse) *fond chuckle*. They are perfectly happy sleeping on the hard tiled floor as they do every night *shakes head*. Might allow the lil mites to have a sleepover tonight, wait and see.
It is go-ahead for West Malaysia at the end of April. We will be accompanying forty blind, deaf and learning disabled students from Malaysia Borneo to attend to the Special Arts and Education week in West Malaysia. Eight deaf students are from DPM. The director is arranging our flights and once confirmed, Kirsty and I will pay for the flights, the rest is covered by the Special Education board in Kuala Lumpur. More challenging opportunities heading our way *excited chitters*.
